Video Games : An escape from reality

Have you ever not played a game? Be it as old as Pacman or Snake Xenzia from the iconic Nokia or newer-gen games like Cyberpunk 2077, we all have come across or played games at some point in our lives. My gaming journey started when I was a child. I loved playing games on my father’s iconic Nokia 3110. To me, games have always felt like more than just a time killer, it has been my source of joy and has in some way shaped me into the person I am today. I know you might be thinking about how lifeless can a person be to make games his source of happiness. But let me explain why.




Games have always been an escape from reality for me. Whenever I am tired of the world or my shoulders feel too heavy to carry all the burden of the expectations surrounding me, games have always allowed me to dive into a new world where I can be someone else. Be it roaming around in the city of Los Angeles in GTA V or a dystopian world as V in Cyberpunk 2077, each game comes with a new story, a story where I could live, a story where I can be someone else. Playing games works like therapy for me when I am sad, and a source of excitement when I’m bored. The stunning and immersive visuals invites me to a new imaginary world.


Before, there weren’t many games to choose from. However, with the advancement of technology, developers started to take an interest in the gaming industry. Additionally, due to the increasing number of gamers, the developers are also actively developing games of different genres. Whether you are a person who just wants to kill some time or someone who wants to take gaming to a competitive level, there are games for everyone. 






Would you have believed me if I told you, you could earn money by playing games 20 years back? Well, the most common answer would be no. But, in today’s world, this has become possible. Gamers who play competitively are earning money through making content or participating in different e-sports tournaments worldwide. There are people earning millions of dollars through the gaming industry. The gaming sector has opened up opportunities to aspiring game developers as well as gamers. All in all, I think my fellow gamers will resonate with me when I say games are home to us. Some games still make me feel nostalgic. It makes me wish I could travel back in time. So, up for another game?
