Football: Media of Communication

Suppose you are walking and suddenly a football rolls over to you, your immediate reaction would be to kick the ball to the place it came from, and if you are not busy then, you would offer yourself to a team and play with them for hours and hours even if you don't know them. This is a sort of conversation where you don't have to actually know which language the person in front of  you speaks and yet can communicate with him.

As human beings, we are bound to socialize and the media for socialization include talking, hand gestures and a rather less noticed medium is sports. These sports draw so much emotions from people specially in football, fan's emotions can be intense. Whether celebrating victories or suffering defeats, the emotional rollercoaster of football fandom creates a shared experience among them.

Football has the ability to create bonds among people across various countries. The FIFA World Cup provides such a platform for people to connect with people from other religions, other cultures, other languages by having only the "passion for football" being their common point of interest. Many cross cultural relationships are formed, many stories are shared, memories created through the means of football.

The final of FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar is the best example of  how football connects people. Lionel Messi's final triumph, lifting the world cup trophy that would make him arguably the most complete player in the history of football, his desire to win was the most, followed by majority of the world population who also want him to succeed.

The final match's first half was clearly indicating that Messi's dream was finally coming true, but starboy Killian Mbappe had other plans. He wasn't ready to give up that trophy for Messi that easily. That 2nd goal by Killian Mbappe had made almost the whole world skip a heartbeat.

At the end, the beauty of the game truly shows itself. Who is he to Messi? What is it to him whether Argentina wins and France loses? These questions don't matter in football. What only matters is the celebrations, the joy or the sorrow. That is how people connect.

Bangladesh had a emotional contribution in Argentina's world cup victory. That's why the embassy of Argentina in Bangladesh was reopened after 45 years of closure. "This is stepping stone to strengthen bilateral relations between 2 nations," says Argentine foreign minister after the declaration for opening.

In a new place, it is very hard to mix with new people, finding a shared interest to mix with them and bond. From my experience I found football as my savior in this situation. After the first exchange of words I tend to ask if he watches football and if the answer is yes, then we would go on to gossip forgetting everything else. We would discuss about the Football Transfer Market, Our favorite clubs and curse our shared hated club and would laugh at some crazy and memorable football incidents. That way we bond, become friends.

Football brings joy, sorrow and also creates division among people. Sometimes rivalries can become very intense. But that is also a part of socialization. People learn to live together with their differences. Football is a media of communication for people all over the world. You might not know his language and you might not even need to know that, cause you can talk to each other by playing football.
