Escape into Nature: Terms and Conditions apply

If you visit Chittagong and wish to spend some quality time in the midst of natural beauty without burning a hole in your pocket, I would suggest you to visit the Bhatiari and Patenga Sea Beach. As Chittagong has hills, Sea and lakes one might get confused about how to visit all these places in a short period of time. These two places offer you the best of both worlds and you can explore them without much hassle. Let’s start talking about them:
Bhatiari: It’s situated about 17 km from the city center. Beautiful lakes and hills adorn the landscape. Roads going through the hills like snake seems magical during evening and the lakes look like mirror when sunlight shines on its surface. If you can spare some extra money, you can enjoy a boat ride in the Bhatiari lake. Sunset point is a must visit spot if you visit Bhatiari. From its vantage point, you can see the Bangladesh Military Academy against the backdrop of Bay of Bengal. You can see ships from there too. As the name suggests, the view of sunset from the hill is like a dream. It’s easy to go to Bhatiari from the city center. You need to go to Oxyzen more by bus or any other vehicle. After that you have to reach Hathazari link road by changing another bus and then taking a shared CNG to Bhatiari.
Patenga Sea Beach: It’s some 22km from the city center. You can go there directly from GEC circle by bus. It’s situated on the edge of the city. Bangladesh Naval Academy and the city’s only airport is situated near it. Though construction of Bay terminal has degraded the sandy beach, still it has its own charm. If you start from the city during noon, you’ll reach there by evening when the sun starts to set. Going there you can sit on the boulders and see waves crashing into the beach, lighterage ships on the horizon. As the airport is nearby, you can see planes taking off and approaching to land overhead which will make any aircraft lover happy. You can play football in the beach with friends and end the day eating pebble sized Peyajus and tea from stalls. The entrance of the Karnaphuli Tunnel is near the beach. If you wish, you can go to Anowara through the tunnel and visit Parki Beach also.

These two places can be visited anytime of the year but the beauty of the beach magnifies during the time of cyclones but I can’t recommend this to you because of obvious reasons. If you plan to visit Bhatiari, try to finish it before 7:00 pm because the roads are treacherous and the military imposes restriction of movement of civilian vehicles after 8:00 pm. I would recommend you to keep a budget of 500 tk for each place. If you spend wisely, you can finish the tour comfortably. Good Luck!
